Yes it is possible: Pitstop stage for the constitutional implementation

The just concluded 1st Annual National Constitutional Implementation Conference offered a platform to take stock of the progress of the new constitution implementation process. It was proven that the implementation process is attainable and possible to dispose the several Bills and issues within the stipulated time lines if only we move and work as a team.
The Parliament, AG’s office, the Executive, relevant Ministries, CIC, the Non-State Actors and any other department responsible all have to do their roles and fast track the process. The unnecessary delay at any one stage of the process, throws the whole process aback which will impact on the implementation time line.
Instead of bashing and bickering on what has not been done or who has not done what, we should at individual levels ask ourselves what have I done in regard to this journey. The why element for the Commission and other key departments that need to ensure the wheel of implementation keeps running is important.
The drum beater Sunny Bindra gave a presentation on the analogy of the pitstop at a Formula One race. From a short clip of what happens at a pitstop and the time taken to change all the four tyres, refuel the race car, check any problem etc truly it is possible even with this new constitution. With the advent of new technologies, pitstops take less time, 7.5seconds, and comparing to our constitution and its implementation within 7.5 months or less we can achieve something if only we get focused and ask ourselves why.
Mr. Sunny Bindra meticulously gave the reason why “why” is a key component of execution or for getting things done. The what, when, how, who and where follows. Like in management, the leadership provided is also key in implementation process. The leadership is all in the team whereby the leadership has to do with the tasks given, the motivation provided and ability to work together in unity with a focus in one direction.
Looking back at the progress of the constitution implementation, both positive and negative forces has been experienced not in equal measure. So far a number of Bills have been passed or they are at an advanced stages. The negative forces have decided to politicize the implementation process hence killing the strategy. There has been issues to do with hoarding of information by the Commission and the AG’s office in regard to status of the various Bills.
As Kenyans lets have the same passion we had while endorsing the document even in its implementation. No doubt that majority of the Kenyans who voted for it had a desire for a better life, better tomorrow hence let’s not kill the aspirations that were represented during the referendum.
Now is the time to join hands and forces together for the full implementation of the constitution, having nothing to do with opposition forces who want to derail the process. Our leaders especially parliament, AG and the president have to lead from the front once again and show commitment to its implementation in letter and spirit. We all get the sense that Kenya is moving, we hearing the voice of history calling and hear a drum beating for our future generations.
